Lost and Found

Lost and Found is a collection of work about losing hope through grief, and finding it again.

Nothing is certain. Once you know that, truly know it, hope becomes an elusive thing. But without hope, life is unbearable. So you build it back up on tiny things – a smile, an uneventful night, a rising sun. You build it on germinating seeds, flowering bulbs, a phone call from an old friend. A warm day, a beer in the garden. Day by day, an accumulation of hope, maybe you’ll stop counting the days. Maybe certainty will cease to matter. Maybe it’s just about gathering the joy together and holding on to it.

Becky learned to sew before she learnt to read. Brought up by seamstresses, needlewomen, and craftspeople it was an inevitability. But it was a long route to professional artist, through youthwork, office administration, community work, and event management. She has been a designer-maker for the past 11 years, making the step towards fine art only recently.

Becky explores ideas and emotions in her work, fascinated by the way that the slow and often laborious process of hand stitching can mirror the ideas and emotions.

Born and bred in Leeds 6, Becky has stayed within spitting distance of Headingley her whole life, so it’s fitting that her first solo exhibition should be in HEART.

Getting there: Parking isn't easy in Headingley, but you can park in nearby Headingley Taps pub car park on North Lane, or find on street parking.  There are Blue Badge parking spots at the venue.  Alternatively you can catch a bus to the Arndale Centre/Headingley Central from the city centre: the numbers 1, 6, 97 all go from Albion Street in the city centre and the journey takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on traffic.  Or you can grab a taxi to Bennett Road, LS6 3HN.  While you are there check out the Assembly Bar and Kitchen within the HEART Centre, for a drink, snack or meal.
